What we can and cannot help with

  • Corrections and factual errors — yes, and quickly. This is the most useful thing you can send us.
  • A product we should cover — yes. Tell us the model and why it matters.
  • A general sizing question — we will try, though the load calculator answers most of them faster than we can.
  • Which generator should I buy for my specific house — we cannot give you a reliable answer without seeing your panel and your loads, and we are not licensed to. Work through the calculator and then talk to an electrician.
  • Installation advice — no. Transfer switches, interlock kits and inlet boxes are licensed electrical work and we will not walk you through wiring. We cover what to buy.
  • A problem with an order — no. We are not the retailer. Purchases are between you and Amazon, so price, shipping, returns and warranty questions go to them.

No phone, no address

Neither exists, so neither appears anywhere on this site. We would rather say that plainly than publish a number nobody answers. Email is the route, and it reaches the person who writes the pages.

If you are reporting an error, a link to the page and the figure you think is wrong is the fastest route to a fix.

Questions people actually ask

How do I report an error on a page?

Email contact@generatorandbackup.com or use the form on this page, with a link to the page and the figure you believe is wrong. We check it against the original source, correct it if it is wrong, and update the page's last reviewed date.

Can you tell me which generator to buy?

Not reliably, because the answer depends on your panel, your loads and your fuel options, none of which we can see — and we are not licensed to advise on it. The load calculator will get you to a wattage class in a couple of minutes, and your electrician can confirm the connection.

Will you help me install a transfer switch?

No. A transfer switch, interlock kit or inlet box is permanent wiring on the supply side of your panel, which is licensed work in most jurisdictions. This site covers what to buy; your electrician installs it.

Why is there no phone number?

Because there is no phone line, and we are not going to invent one. A fabricated number on a live site routes a real question into the void. Email reaches the person who writes the pages.

I have a problem with my order. Can you help?

We are not the retailer, so no — we have no visibility into your order. Price, availability, shipping, returns and warranty questions go to Amazon, who sold it to you.
