Privacy policy

The short version

• We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful.
• Amazon sets a cookie when you click a buy link, so a purchase is attributed to this site.
• The contact form collects what you type into it and emails it to us.
• We do not sell data, we do not run advertising networks, and we have no account system because there is nothing to log into.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to record which pages are visited, roughly where visitors come from, and which buy links are clicked. That last one is how we know which recommendations readers find useful.

Analytics data is aggregated and we do not attempt to identify individuals from it. Google's own handling of the data is covered by Google's privacy policy. Browser-level or extension-level blocking of analytics is entirely fine and does not affect the site.

Affiliate links

When you click a buy link, you pass through our own redirect and then on to Amazon, which sets a cookie recording that you arrived from this site. That cookie is how a purchase gets attributed to us, and its handling is governed by Amazon's privacy policy rather than ours.

The contact form

If you use the contact form, the name, email address, topic and message you enter are emailed to contact@generatorandbackup.com. We keep that email so we can reply and so we can act on corrections, and we do not add you to any mailing list — there is no mailing list.

The form also records the moment the page loaded and includes a hidden field, both purely as spam defenses. Neither is used for anything else and neither identifies you.

What we do not do

• We do not sell, rent or share your data.
• We do not run advertising networks or retargeting pixels.
• We have no accounts, no logins and no passwords, because there is nothing to log into.
• We do not host comments, so there is no comment data.
• We do not operate a newsletter.

Your choices

• Block or clear cookies in your browser at any time. The site works without them.
• Use any analytics-blocking extension you like. We do not detect or discourage it.
• To ask what we hold from a contact form message, or to have it deleted, email contact@generatorandbackup.com.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update it here and change the last-updated date at the top of the page.
