Predator Generators
We have no live specification data for these, and we are not going to write a review from memory. Here is the honest version.

The short answer
Predator is Harbor Freight's house brand, sold through its own stores rather than the retailer this site's data comes from. We therefore have no live manufacturer specification data for Predator generators, and every figure on this site comes from live listing data rather than memory. So we are not going to publish a Predator review. What we can do is explain what to compare them against, and point you at machines whose specifications we can actually cite.
What we can observe
Our product data does include a substantial ecosystem of aftermarket parts for Predator generators — inverter modules, starter motors, carburetors, low-oil sensors, recoil starters, fuel tanks and tune-up kits for the 9500-watt inverter among others.
That is informative in one narrow way: a brand with a deep third-party parts market is a brand with a lot of units in service, and parts availability is a genuine consideration on a generator. It tells you nothing about whether a given model is a good purchase.
What we do not have is Predator's own published running watts, starting watts, noise ratings, total harmonic distortion, outlet configurations or warranty terms from a live source. Those are the figures a review needs.
What to check if you are considering one
The same specifications we hold every machine on this site to. Read them off Harbor Freight's own listing or the unit's label:
- 1Running watts, not peak, on the fuel you intend to use. Peak is what a machine holds for a second or two; running is what carries your house for three days.
- 2The 240 V outlet type. An L14-30R is 120/240 V and serves a standard transfer switch. An L5-30R is 120 V only and does not. This is the most expensive single mistake available.
- 3Whether there is a carbon monoxide shutdown. Increasingly standard across the category and still not universal.
- 4A decibel figure with a stated measurement distance, if noise matters. Only some manufacturers give the distance.
- 5Total harmonic distortion, if a modern furnace control board is in your plan.
- 6Warranty length and what the service path is — where you take it, and who stocks parts.
Our sizing calculator and the appliance wattage chart work regardless of brand, so you can establish what you need and then check any machine against it.
The comparable machines we can cite
If you are weighing a Predator inverter generator against alternatives, these are the machines in a similar class whose specifications we hold from live data:
Published figures for comparable units
- Champion 11,000 W inverter
- 9,000 W running, 64 dBA at 23 ft
- Westinghouse iGen12000DFc
- 12,000 W peak, 3% THD, dual fuel
- Westinghouse ecoGen10000
- 7,600 W running, under 3% THD, open frame
- DuroMax XP11000iH
- 9,000 W running, dual fuel, transfer-switch ready
Manufacturer published figures. Champion's is the only one here that states a measurement distance with its decibel rating, which makes it the most directly comparable noise figure in the group.

| # | Product | Best for | Score | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() Champion 11,000W Remote Start Inverter A quiet, well-documented 9,000-running-watt inverter whose Cold Start Technology is more useful than the spec sheet suggests — but it only runs on gasoline. | Quiet whole-house, gasoline | 8.1/10 | $1,899.00 |
| 2 | ![]() Westinghouse iGen12000DFc 12,000W Dual Fuel Inverter The best technical answer for whole-house backup if the budget allows: transfer-switch-ready output, inverter-clean power, and far less noise than the conventional alternative. | Whole-house backup with clean power | 9.0/10 | $1,899.00 |
| 3 | ![]() Westinghouse ecoGen10000 10,000W Open-Frame Inverter The value route to inverter-clean power at whole-essential-circuit output, at the cost of the acoustic enclosure and the propane option. | Clean power at 7,600 running watts | 8.3/10 | $1,149.00 |
| 4 | ![]() DuroMax XP11000iH 11,000W Dual Fuel Inverter More output than the XP9500iH at the same weight, but the undocumented THD and noise make the Westinghouse the better-evidenced inverter choice. | Transfer-switch-ready dual fuel inverter | 7.9/10 | $2,499.00 |
| 5 | ![]() Westinghouse WGen9500DF 12,500W Dual Fuel The most broadly sensible home backup generator on the market: enough running watts for a whole essential-circuit panel, both transfer-switch outlets, and dual fuel — with the caveat that it has no CO shutoff. | The default whole-house pick | 8.8/10 | $999.00 |

On value brands generally
We have no position on Predator specifically, but we do have an observation about this end of the market that applies broadly: the savings usually come from somewhere, and it is worth identifying where before buying.
In our registry, the pattern is consistent. WEN offers the best watts per dollar and publishes no noise or THD figures, with a thinner service network. DuroStar is DuroMax's value brand with a similar spec and different fit and finish. Neither is a bad purchase; both are purchases where you should know which corner was cut.
The corners that matter most, in our view: a missing carbon monoxide shutdown, a 120V-only L5-30R where you expected an L14-30R, and no published per-fuel running watts. Those three are worth paying to avoid. Brand prestige is not.

Questions people actually ask
Why don't you review Predator generators?
Predator is Harbor Freight's house brand, sold through its own stores rather than the retailer our live product data comes from. Every specification on this site is retrieved from a live listing rather than written from memory, so we have no citable figures for Predator machines.
Are Predator generators any good?
We have no position, because we hold no live specification data for them. What we would check is the same as for any machine: running watts on your intended fuel, the 240 volt outlet type, whether there is a CO shutdown, and the published noise and THD figures.
What should I compare a Predator generator against?
In the 9,000-12,000 watt inverter class, Champion's 11,000 W inverter (9,000 running watts, 64 dBA at a stated 23 feet), Westinghouse's iGen12000DFc (12,000 peak watts, 3% THD, dual fuel) and ecoGen10000 (7,600 running watts, under 3% THD), and DuroMax's XP11000iH.
Are value-brand generators worth buying?
Often, if you know which corner was cut. The ones worth paying to avoid are a missing carbon monoxide shutdown, a 120 volt-only L5-30R outlet where you expected a 240 volt L14-30R, and no published per-fuel running watts. Brand prestige itself is not worth paying for.
Does a big aftermarket parts supply mean a generator is good?
It means a lot of units are in service, which makes parts availability genuinely better — a real consideration on a generator. It says nothing about whether a given model is well specified or suits your load.
How do I size any generator, regardless of brand?
Total the running watts of everything you need on at once, add the single largest additional start-up surge, then divide the running total by 0.8 for continuous-running headroom. Our sizing calculator and appliance wattage chart work for any brand.
